VALLEY OASIS was incorporated in 1981 as the Antelope Valley Domestic Violence Council. In 1980, Michael D. Antonovich, Supervisor, 5th District, of Los Angeles County, created a task force to conduct a needs assessment to identify the services available for domestic violence victims. It was quickly determined that there was a great need for a domestic violence shelter in the region and through the supervisor's efforts, Valley Oasis Domestic Violence Shelter was open. In 2006, the agency celebrated 25 years of service by creating a D.B.A, changing the name to Valley Oasis. In addition to the name change the agency incorporated a logo and tag line NURTURE HEAL RENEW.

Essential Job Functions:
- Run the daily maintenance operations of the property and buildings
- Prepare a weekly maintenance schedule and allocate work orders as they come in
- Maintain all inventory and equipment, and ensure proper storage
- Complete a daily activity sheet with completed tasks
- Review and respond to work emails throughout work day
- Comply with all health and safety regulations and practices on agency sites
- Carry out inspections of the facilities to identify and resolve issues
- Monitor & procure expenses
- Manage and maintain relationships with community vendors;
- Inspect property and buildings for life/safety issues and take immediate corrective action
- Identify building maintenance needs and prioritize work schedule
- Be a self-starter and work independently in the absence of supervision
- Perform a full range of skilled building maintenance for extended periods of time
- Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area and shop
- Establish and maintain professional and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Perform preventative maintenance on buildings including but not limited to: carpentry, electrical, painting, plastering, dry walling, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and mechanical repair work, door hardware, keying, exit and emergency lighting
- Repair electrical switches, outlets, lighting systems and fixtures
- Perform advanced level plumbing work including installation, repair and replacement of plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, faucets, water heaters and pipes
- Inspect building facilities to identify building maintenance needs; complete inspection and preventative maintenance reports, recommend, prioritize and perform corrective maintenance as required
- Install, maintain and repair a variety of mechanical tools and equipment such as power saws, power sanders, drills, air compressors, paint sprayers, generators, pressure washers, landscaping equipment and various hand tools required for carpentry, plumbing and maintenance skills
- Responsible for procurement of all materials needed
- Traveling from site to site
- Supervise and guide volunteer maintenance workers
- Attend agency and program meetings
- Attend trainings and continuing education activities as assigned
- Adhere to agency policies and procedures including confidentiality, child abuse reporting, and code of ethics
- Additional tasks, projects and or responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor that are not outlined but which are an important part of the agency’s goals and/or program outcomes
- Advanced knowledge of general maintenance procedures and techniques
- Knowledge of tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair work
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance requirements and practices
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical systems, plumbing, carpentry, etc.
- Operate with a high level of personal organization
- Able to maintain a supportive, calm and professional attitude at all times
- Ability to lift 25+ pounds above the waist and carry heavy objects
- Understanding of and sensitivity to the unique circumstances of underserved populations and to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and homelessness
- Actively promote positive, nurturing interactions between residents
- Ability to work well in a crisis situation
- Ability to handle common problems without supervisor intervention while knowing when supervisor participation is warranted
- Ability to work overtime, if needed, including weekends, holidays and evenings
- Work effectively under conditions of limited supervision, high stress and rapidly changing situations and circumstances
- Able to take appropriate steps to deal with emergency situations with the goal of maintaining the safety of all residents
- Promote cooperation and commitment within a team to achieve goals and objective; collaborate with team members, sharing ideas and differences openly; be receptive to new ideas and adapt to change as necessary
- Considers impact of personal and professional choices. Consistently make decisions in keeping with organizational values and Supervisor’s direction
- Strict confidentiality must be observed as it relates to participant information, agency business, program decisions and all other personal information
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to follow through from beginning to end on tasks
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral; must communicate professionally and positively with participants, co-workers, management, community partners, employers, landlords, and other service providers
- Proficient with office communication equipment and machines (telephone, copier, calculator, fax machine, personal computer, laptop, computer printer and scanner)
- Proficient in use of laptop/desktop computer, Microsoft Windows and Office software programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google drive
- Maintain professional boundaries and work collaboratively with participants, volunteers and staff
- Accountability – be on time for scheduled shifts
- Be able to read and write English
- Bilingual Preferred but not required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Three years’ experience in facilities maintenance
- Experience in a residential facility setting strongly preferred
- Experience working with an agency that provides trauma services
- Must have a valid California Driver’s License
- Reliable transportation
- Auto Insurance
- Clean driving record
